Valerie Goodman grew up in an artistic family in Paris. Her great grand father Rubin Sobol photographed the Cabaret stars of the 20s and 30s among them Mistinguette and Josephine Baker, her grand mother who escaped the war by taking the last boat out of Marseilles to Argentina owned a literary bookstore/salon in St Germain des Pres in the early 50’s where the writers of the Nouveau Roman among others used to meet. Her father was painter in Paris and her mother an avid antique collector.

Valerie studied art and literature at the Sorbonne and came to New York in 1983 to work in the arts, music and film. She managed John Lurie and the Lounge Lizards, produced music, films and photographic exhibitions . Since 2003 Valérie Goodman re-connected with her French roots and has focused on selling primarily 20th-century European furniture, lighting and decorative pieces (view inventory).

In 2009, Valerie opened her own gallery and is now presenting the work of contemporary French artists working in the decorative arts. Her focus is on discovering and presenting important artist work that that is leading edge, spiritual and timeless.

Several times a year the gallery presents exhibitions of new work by one of its artist.
