Unique ceramic center table by Claire de Lavallee This piece in Clay and Platinum was inspired by the shell principle used in architecture to build stadium roofing for example. On a canvas held by sticks on 4 corners the artist laid a large sheet of raw supple clay. The clay takes hold in the suspended fabric creating folds and undulations. The work is about the play between gravity and optimization. After it has found its form the piece is fired and a second layer of platinum is applied as an imprint.
